In memoriam: Agnes Grondman

20-04-2023 - Agnes Grondman (7 March 1952 - 13 April 2023) was director of Museum de Fundatie from 1990 to 2006. She built the museum from a small, private institution to a medium-sized, professional museum.

When Grondman took office as director in 1990, she joined the Hannema-de Stuers Fundatie. Under her leadership, the foundation corporatised and continued under the name of Museum de Fundatie in June 2004. After a major restoration, Kasteel het Nijenhuis was then opened to the public at set times from September 2004.

Agnes Grondman also ensured that Museum de Fundatie could also move into the former Palace of Justice in Zwolle in 2004-2005. Under her directorship, the collection of Dirk Hannema and the collection of the Province of Overijssel were expanded with important purchases and bequests, including an extensive collection of work by Jan Voerman, from actor/collector Henk van Ulsen.

Before becoming director of Museum de Fundatie, Grondman took classes at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and studied art history and archaeology at the University of Amsterdam. She worked a.o. for the Lakenhal in Leiden, the Amsterdam Museum and was director at Gemeentemuseum de Wieger in Deurne. After working for Museum de Fundatie, Grondman held various board positions, at the Dutch Museum Association, CJP and the Arts Council, among others.

Agnes Grondman has been of great significance to Museum de Fundatie. The museum wishes everyone who loved her much strength in bearing this loss.
