This Fundatie Friday provides a platform for two visual artists from Zwolle, Ewoud Bakker and Jolein Kirpestein. They will be discussing AI in art. What do they themselves look for in art, and what choices do they make when it comes to AI?
Come and listen to, and join in, an in-depth discussion about art, technology and the changing role of humanity.
The two artists from Zwolle have their own artistic approach to how technology is changing our understanding of humanity, the creator and the environment.
In her visual art practice, Jolein Kirpestein explores the impact of transhumanism: the fusion of human biology with artificial intelligence, biotechnology and cybernetics. She asks what we are sacrificing in the name of digital efficiency. To this end, she recently developed street art in which animated illustrations prompt viewers to reflect on a future that is becoming less and less like science fiction and more and more like reality.
Ewoud Bakker has many years’ experience with AI. In 2026, he embarked on a long-term research project based on the concept of autopoiesis: the ability of systems to generate, maintain and transform themselves. For example, he has created eight AI artists who produce art on a daily basis and reflect collectively. He is interested in how one can collaborate with AI.
There will be an opportunity for the audience to take part into the discussion.
Marleen Stein will be moderating the evening.
