Fundatie Friday: Cremer in context

with jazz music by Klaassen Wasser

Every first Friday of the month is Fundatie Friday! Between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM, you can enjoy a diverse program for free.

This Fundatie Friday ties in with the exhibition Cremer in Context - The Early Years. Artist Jan Cremer was a great lover of jazz music. That is why there is a jazz performance tonight by double bassist Tijs Klaassen and saxophonist Gerben Wasser. For this concert, they have joined forces to tackle the Blue Note repertoire. They do this in their own unique modern style, using effects while the well-known Blue Note pieces remain recognizable.

Program:
18:30 – 19:00 uur      Flash tours of the exhibition Cremer in Context
19:30 – 20:15 uur      Live jazz music

Tijs Klaassen (1993) is a Dutch double bassist and bass guitarist. In addition to leading his own band, the Tijs Klaassen Quintet, he is active as a backing musician in numerous bands within the Dutch jazz scene. He studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory with jazz teachers Ernst Glerum, Frans van der Hoeven, and Ruud Ouwehand, and with classical teacher Peter Leerdam. During his exchange semester in Philadelphia (USA), he studied with David Wong at the Boyer College of Music and Dance. During his stay in the United States, he took private lessons with Ron Carter, Orlando Le Fleming, Rick Rosato, and Ben Street.

Gerben Wasser is a versatile saxophonist, composer, and bandleader with a unique musical palette. In 2017, he graduated with a 9 from the prestigious Prins Claus Conservatorium. During his studies, he was part of leading orchestras such as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and Jong Metropole, and shared the stage with greats like Benjamin Herman, Izaline Calister, Greetje Bijma, and Martin Fondse. Gerben's sound takes the audience on an unforgettable musical journey full of energy and emotion, where jazz comes to life in all its versatility. This is jazz like you've never heard it before – surprising, captivating, and swinging!
